abstract:
Shear behavior of 4 cold-formed steel box griders with varying shear-to-span ratios, fabricated by sinusoidal corrugated webs and tubular flanges, was experimentally and numerically studied in this paper. Shear tests were carried out to acquire shear resistances, failure modes and load versus displacement curves, and numerical simulations were conducted using finite element(FE) software package ABAQUS. The results show that the failure of tested griders under shear was triggered by the screw connections, which exhibited both bearing and tearing failure modes. The numerically obtained failure modes, together with the predicted shear resistances of the tested box griders agreed well with the test results, and hence the accuracy of the developed FE models was verified afterwards.
