    Focusing on the large-scale, long continuous deformation time, and damage to the support system for the coal pillar passing through the entry, under an extremely close distance, of the 3101 coal face in Xinwang Coal Mine, we analysed its characteristics of deformation and failure and revealed the fracture mechanism. FLAC3 D numerical simulation software was used to research the influence of remaining coal pillars on the stress distribution of the roof in the lower coal roof; study the change regularity in plastic region of surrounding rock for the coal pillar passing through the entry, and thus put forward a mixed supporting of bolting with wire mesh combined with bolt-grouting; discuss the effects of row spacing between rock bolts and the depth of bolt-grouting on the combined supporting as well as its application in the field. The results show that with the adoption of combined supporting, the overall deformation of the surrounding rock in the drift is relatively small, with a reduction of 75% with respect to the original supporting, and there is no cracking or damage in the supporting system so that it effectively controls the deformation of surrounding rock in the coal entry under an extremely close distance.
