    abstract:
    A rate-insensitive material model was used in commercial FE software to simulate the dynamic splitting tests. The influence of thickness and the loading angle of flattened Brazilian disc specimen on the tensile strength was investigated. The numerical simulation results indicate that the inertia effect has a significant influence on the dynamic tensile strength. The inertia effect is dependent on specimen size, loading angle and strain rate.
