A New Method of Structural Displacement Calculations

abstract:
In this paper, the author establishes two new methods to calculate bending bar displacement and axial force bar displacement: the Curvature Method and the Geometry Method. The Curvature Method is created according to the curvature-deflection relation, while the Geometry Method is induced from binary. somite point displacement diagram analysis. The paper has also demonstrated how to apply the two methods with some real examples. Combined use of the two methods serves as an independent approach to solve various displacement calculation prob- lems covering all types of statically determinate structure. Compared with traditional virtual work method, the new methods are simpler, easier to use and more visualized. They thus have great practical significance in such areas as teaching, scientific research, as well as engineering design and construction.
